Growing up, my dad and I have probably spent more time butting heads than holding hands. While working with him as a kid, I spent plenty of time telling him I was far too smart to ever become a contractor. I told him I was “going to be an engineer and use my brain and not my back.” However, I quickly realized my true passion was for creating structures rather than mathematically proving they would work. I also became present to the fact that nothing I chose to do would limit my urge to learn. So I started my construction business and sought every opportunity to educate myself. Decades later I find this small design-build firm has become my identity, built on a set of skills I never intended to use.
