SailFest Cape Charles™ Set to Bring Maritime Fun to Town June 19-21
Cape Charles is gearing up to impress residents and visitors with a Virginia 250 celebration like no other. June 19-21, 2026, will bring four tall ships to Cape Charles’ deepwater harbor, a full lineup of live music, plenty of children’s activities to keep your little ones busy, and, of course, fireworks to commemorate such an extravagant celebration of America.
Cape Charles Main Street was initially asked to take on SailFest Cape Charles several years ago. Since then, a dedicated committee has formed, delegated tasks, and began piecing the event together. Beyond a dedicated committee, SailFest Cape Charles is supported by a large number of volunteers from our local community.
SailFest Cape Charles officially kicks off on June 19, but the free public activities ramp up on June 20. The four tall ships – AJ Meerwald, Schooner Lynx, Kalmar Nyckel, and Luna – arrive Friday evening after splitting off from the 25+ tall ship Parade of Sail through the Chesapeake Bay. Saturday and Sunday open up a world of fun as public activities become available. Learn more about activities & attractions below:
Ships & Boats: All boats are open to the public for deck tours Saturday and Sunday from 12 PM to 6 PM. Hop aboard to learn more about nautical operations and history!
Kid’s Activities: On Saturday and Sunday, kids may enjoy a touch tank, knot tying, bracelet making, face painting, the Northampton Bookmobile, a Cape Charles Community Sailing experience, burgee making, and a petting zoo.
Historical Presentations: Over the course of Saturday and Sunday, SailFest has 10 presenters coming to share stories of the Eastern Shore’s history. Topics include Naval Warfare During the Age of Sail, Bacon’s Rebellion and Governor Berkeley’s Flight to the Eastern Shore, Seafaring Heritage and Traditions, and more!
Live Music: You certainly won’t want to miss the tunes on display at SailFest! On Saturday, catch Williamsburg Field Musick, All American Alumni Band, and Three Sheets to the Wind. Sunday brings the Sonic Ukes, Shore Singers, The Colonial Singers of Williamsburg, and Six String Soldiers.
Fireworks: No celebration of America’s 250th birthday should end without fireworks. On Saturday night at 9:15 PM, join us in the harbor for a fireworks display over the water.

The Impact Center’s first annual Juneteenth Celebration highlights African American history, culture, and freedom on June 19, and Citizens for Central Park is set to host their first summer concert of the season on the evening of June 19.
All-day on-site event parking at SailFest will cost $10 per day for cars/trucks, $5 for golf carts, and handicap free with placard. You may pre-order $10 passes here. Select local pickup at checkout to avoid shipping costs. Pre-ordered passes will be distributed at your time of arrival to SailFest. Parking passes will not be shipped or distributed from the Cape Charles Main Street office prior to the event.
